A new story emerges as the Cloud journey evolves | #CloudWorld

The Cloud is changing how business is done, but like any technology, the Cloud itself is also changing. New ways of delivering Cloud services are opening up remote computing to companies who must rely on legacy systems, while Cloud providers are offering solutions to regulatory and compliance issues. Oracle is empowering this change with end-to-end Cloud systems, including a public Cloud product that can run behind a company’s firewall.

To gain some insight on Oracle’s plans for the Cloud, John Furrier and Dave Vellante, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, joined Steve Daheb at the Oracle CloudWorld 2016 conference. Daheb is senior VP of Oracle Cloud – IaaS, PaaS, security, mobile and analytics at Oracle.

A journey of technology

The conversation started with a look at Daheb’s view of the Cloud. He stated that the Cloud is a journey, and customers are beginning to understand there’s a progression when working with remote computing. Customers, he said, are looking for someone to take them through all the layers of the stack. They want to know about more than just storage or analytics, including how to run a business on the Cloud.

Oracle can help these customers, Daheb continued, by providing an integrated set of services and a package solution. With Oracle taking care of the technology, he said, the customer can spend their time understanding data, rather than collecting it.

Messaging and money

“Most of the world’s information runs on Oracle,” Daheb said. Oracle has also been around for decades, and the Cloud is just another transition Oracle is helping their customers through. Now, he continued, Oracle is telling the stories of their experiences, solution-oriented stories, to change the dialogue about what Cloud can do and who can use it.

Daheb also pointed out that moving to the Cloud can save a business a lot of money. Companies save on compute, storage, power costs and other operational expenses. This money, he said, can then go back into what matters most for the company, like development or core business investments.
