How to enable Night Shift ‘From Sunset to Sunrise’ schedule option in iOS 9.3

One of the most exciting and talked about new features in iOS 9.3 is Night Shift. Night Shift lets users adjust the color temperature of their iPhone or iPad’s screen to reduce blue light which may be preventing a good night’s sleep.

Users can activate Night Shift in iOS 9.3 manually or let the system activate it automatically when the sun goes down every day using the From Sunset to Sunrise scheduling option or a custom schedule.

Reports have surfaced that, after updating to iOS 9.3, the From Sunset to Sunrise scheduling option was missing for a number of users.

This is not a bug, but rather a settings issue. Night Shift uses Location Services to pinpoint a user’s timezone and calculate what time sunset and sunrise occur on any given day and uses those time to turn Night Shift on or off.

If a user has toggled off the Setting Time Zone permission in their Privacy settings, iOS cannot determine when sunrise and sunset is and cannot turn the feature on or off automatically — hence, the From Sunset to Sunrise scheduling option does not appear.

To enable Setting Time Zone, go to Settings > tap Privacy > tap Location Services > scroll down to and tap System Services > toggle on Setting Time Zone

Now, to have Night Shift automatically activate at sunset and deactivate at sunrise, go to Settings > Display & Brightness > tap on Schedule > tap on From Sunset to Sunrise.

If the From Sunset to Sunrise scheduling option is still not available, perform a hard reboot of your iPhone or iPad and check again.

Also, note that Night Shift in iOS 9.3 is only compatible with iPhone 5s or later, the 6th-gen iPod touch, 9.7-inch iPad Pro, 12-inch iPad Pro, iPad Air or later, and iPad mini 2 and later.
