EMC disrupts its traditional market with non-traditional ScaleIO | #emcworld

EMC has created a modern, software-based data infrastructure management tool that is greatly improving how data servers and associated hardware are being integrated. the company said. Boaz Palgi, VP and GM of ScaleIO at EMC, sat down to discuss ScaleIO with John Furrier (@furrier) and Dave Vellante (@dvellante), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during EMC World 2016 in Las Vegas.

“ScaleIO is a software-only, enterprise-class block storage device,” said Palgi. It allows the customer to integrate and manage almost all platforms and hardware they are familiar with today, with heightened security and stability, reduced cost and a vast increase in efficiency, he added.

Top use cases

There are two main areas where ScaleIO has really taken off and is being seen more frequently: infrastructure of servers, such as public and private clouds, and databases. The comprehensive ability of ScaleIO to integrate virtually any server hardware and software, as well as the product’s scalability, flexibility and elasticity, has given customers a powerful new management tool that is revitalizing entire data centers, according to Palgi.

For instance, Citigroup, Inc. has embraced ScaleIO, and it will be an integral part of the company’s software foundation moving forward. “Any use case of Citigroup that can run on ScaleIO is going onto ScaleIO,” said Palgi. “On the first deployment, they’ve already got 60 percent lower cost … better performance, more elasticity and operational ease.”
