Witcher 3: Blood and Wine expansion releasing May 31

It has been nearly one year since Polish game studio CD Projekt RED released its highly acclaimed RPG, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and the game has since won numerous awards for its engaging gameplay, stunning graphics, and epic story. Now it looks like the story of The Witcher 3 will finally be coming to a close with Blood and Wine, which will be the last expansion released for the game. This week, CD Projekt unveiled a few details about the new expansion, along with its release date of May 31.

Here is CD Projekt’s official synopsis for the new expansion:

Welcome to the land of summer, a remote valley untouched by war. The land of wandering knights, noble ladies and magnificent wineries. What better time to visit than now, when this kingdom of virtue is torn apart by a series of savage massacres! Geralt of Rivia, a legendary monster slayer, takes on his last great contract. Blood and Wine offers over 30 hours of adventure, where beauty clashes with horror, and love dances with deceit.

There are currently few details on the story or gameplay of the new expansion, but the screenshots released by CD Projekt show a landscape that seems a little more fantastical than the usually dour setting of The Witcher, complete with giant mushrooms and fairy tale castle towers.

While it will be sad to say goodbye to Geralt, a 30 hour expansion will certainly keep fans entertained for some time, and the studio said that it will continue to release patches for the game for some time.

Of course, there is also a silver lining to the development on The Witcher 3 coming to an end. With its work on The Witcher 3 finished, CD Projekt will finally be free to devote its full attention to Cyberpunk 2077, the studio’s highly anticipated sci-fi RPG that has been in the works for at least four years.
