How Hana Cloud solves complicated application development | #SAPPHIRENOW

SAP’s Hana Cloud Platform has been a big part of the app developer ecosystem since the beginning of OpenStack. However, the media does not always give SAP the credit it deserves.

Uddhav Gupta, global VP, SAP Platform Solution Group at SAP SE, sat down with John Furrier (@furrier), cohost of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during SAP Sapphire 2016 in Orlando, Florida.

What customers wanted

Years ago, SAP spoke to the developer community and asked what they wanted in terms of an OpenStack developer ecosystem. The answer was two-fold: to be able to integrate existing applications, and to be able to extend existing processes.

“Hana Cloud Platform is basically an idea that we came up with to solve the biggest problem of complicated application development,” said Gupta.

Comparisons to Oracle

SAP has drawn comparisons to Oracle, but the structure of the system is quite different.  After working with Hana for a just a few days, many customers realized that it works not only on the SAP platform, but off-platform as well. This allows developers to integrate Hana more easily with their existing systems.
