The HPE vision for AI: Bringing it to everyone | HPEdiscover

There has been much talk about AI, also known as “artificial intelligence” or “augmented intelligence” in the industry recently. Where does it stand, who is using it and how will it be implemented in the marketplace in the future?

Robert Youngjohns, EVP and GM of HP Software at Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. (HPE), sat down with Dave Vellante (@dvellante) and John Furrier (@furrier), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during HPE Discover 2016 in Las Vegas to discuss the future of AI.

AI and the future of application development

AI is traditionally a futuristic concept, but not so futuristic that it is not already being implemented by developers on a wide scale. HPE is driving and encouraging that implementation within its own Enterprise platform.

“I actually think machine learning and deep analytics are going to get embedded into every business process and every application that gets written over the next five years,” said Youngjohns.

Democratizing machine learning

HPE’s philosophy regarding how to get AI into the marketplace is different from other companies. While some believe you need to hire a few consultants or PhDs to create algorithms, HPE believes it’s better to make AI a part of their platform, with open APIs, and allow all developers to access it.

The company believes this is how the applications of the future will be created. “We’re building a platform that is open, extendable, easy to access, and we’re making the platform available to developers at no charge,” explained Youngjohns.
