Docker’s plans for HPE alliance, container ecosystem| #HPEdiscover

At the HPE Discover 2016 event, announcements of business plans for the HP branch are just one of the attractors for those looking to stay informed on the latest tech world news, with partnerships drawing in even more connections.

David Hunter, VP & Chief Technologist, Converged Data Center Infrastructure of HPE; and Marianna Tessel, EVP Strategic Development at Docker, met for a brief interview with cohost Jeff Frick (@JeffFrick) of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, to talk about the partnering of the two companies, with a look at how it would serve customers.

Linking up

Following up on the day’s announcement of forming a strategic relationship between Docker and HPE, Hunter shared that they also had plans to ship “Docker-ready servers as well as converged reference architectures, ” and that HPE’s new HC-380 hyper-converged platform would also be receiving release support with this roll-out.

The alliance provide a “very significant partnership for both sides,” said Tessel, “but for us it’s a leading infrastructure provider, and it was important for us to create a partnership there and get our stack on the well-known HP stacks.”

Serving customers

“From a customer point of view,” Tessel added, “they’re [going to] get a very strong, combined architectures all the way from how the customer can engage with it to how they’re going to be supported, and how we’re going to provide services.”

“We want to get out ahead of this,” Hunter said, “go ahead and start building the ecosystem, start driving demand for something that we really see as a key up-and-coming technology for the next wave of computing.”

Tessel also shared her perspective on the importance of containers in modern applications, and the effect that growth has had on the industry as a whole, stating that “It’s hard to talk about containers without talking about micro-services and how applications fundamentally have been changing, how they’re now part of many micro-services together are used to create an application, and with that the whole development process has changed as well.”

Tessel continued, “You have to deal with different scale, much more automation, much more different tooling around, etc., and containers really enabled that whole transformation that’s going on in the industry.”
