How ‘talent science’ increased one company’s retention | #Inforum16

The enterprise may feel reassured in their IT investments once they have collected data, a step many companies consider the most important, and most complicated. In fact, amassing data is just the beginning, according to Ben Eubanks, principal analyst at Lighthouse Research & Advisory, HR blogger, and cofounder of HRevolution, a US conference for the human resource industry.

Once you have the data, you have to know what you’re looking for and what you’re going to do with it, ideally having those with hands-on experience in the field working with the data. With such an in-depth background in HR, Eubanks emphasized that he knows what to look for in the data because he’s witnessed the power of properly placed information.

Eubanks talked to Dave Vellante (@dvellante) and George Gilbert (@ggilbert41), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during Inforum 2016 at Javits Center in New York City.

Two ways Infor is impacting HR

One of the ways Infor is doing a great job in this space is by tying other areas into HR, Eubanks said. It takes into account the financial and other aspects that have influence on HR. “HR isn’t done in a vacuum,” said Eubanks. “A lot of other companies don’t tie it all together, so you miss those things.” This integration is a key factor to many enterprises.

Infor is also doing interesting things in analytics. Citing an Infor use case with a healthcare organization having an extremely hard time with talent retention, Eubanks explained. With Infor’s integration, this organization started using talent science on the front end, going deeper than just the initial interview to get a sense of the applicant’s personality and preferences. This allowed the organization to place nurses that enjoyed face-to-face interaction in areas where they’d often come into contact with patients, while placing those who were very regimented in places such as the OR.

“The turnover rate dropped dramatically,” said Eubanks.

Looking to the future

From matching talent through user-friendly websites, to making it easier on HR employees themselves with intuitive software, Eubanks said Infor is working on a lot of exciting projects. Currently, he is working on a study titled Modern Measure of Success, which he hopes will help companies improve and view benchmarks of how they’re facing competition.
