Mirantis, SUSE detail joint plans to deliver digital transformation for enterprises | #OpenStackSV

A new partnership was announced between SUSE (a Micro Focus Co.) and Mirantis, Inc. today on theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team. A representative of each company sat down to discuss this new partnership and the future of the industry. The partnership was a natural fit, with both companies possessing unique qualities with a similar philosophy.

“The OpenStack philosophy is our philosopy,” said Kamesh Pemmaraju, VP of Product Marketing at Mirantis, Inc. Pemmaraju was joined by Michael Miller, president of Strategy, Alliances & Marketing at SUSE. The pair were interviewed by John Furrier (@furrier), host of theCUBE, during OpenStack Days, taking place at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, CA.

The impact of standardization

One of the biggest challenges Miller sees is that of standardization. A lot of the hesitation coming from those reluctant to enter the OpenStack world is from the lack of direction or a clear understanding of where this technology is going, according to Miller.

Standardization would make the path ahead much more clear and drive the community forward. In addition, it would help transition from systems that are purely interesting demos to becoming day two scenarios that are real and usable.

Providing enterprises with tangible outcomes

For Pemmaraju, the biggest challenge is having measurable and provable business outcomes. There may be admirable developments taking place, “but if it doesn’t solve a business problem, it’s not going anywhere,” said Pemmaraju. This is why Mirantis has a system in place they call Architecture Design Assessment (ADA).

This allows them to assess the customer’s needs before designing and building a solution. By recognizing that each enterprise has a different system and different goals with different specifications, it is able to serve each customer in a way that is flexible and customizable from the ground up.

“We think of this as a digital transformation for these companies,” he added.
