Moo.do integrates with Gmail to combine your email and to-do list

Moo.do for Gmail allows you to manage your email together with all your other tasks like to-do lists, projects, calendar entries, contacts, documents and more all in one place. The tool is ideal for business users or individuals who are trying to get a handle on an out-of-control inbox, ongoing projects and to-do lists all at once.

Developed by Jay Meistrich and Grant Watters, who previously both worked at Microsoft, the team have been beta testing the Moo.do Gmail plugin for the last four months and is now making it available to everyone for free.  

How does Moo.do work?

Firstly, head to the Moo.do site to sign up for a free account, there is also an Android and iOS app. Once you connect Moo.do to your Google account, you get a clean, distraction-free interface for your email, removing any unnecessary lines and buttons.

Right click on a specific email and add priority color-coding, add a label like ‘Needs Reply’ or click on the email to view the full body text in the reading pane. However, we have all added emails to folders and never looked at them again. Moo.do makes it easier to keep track of your emails in various folders and labels with the multi-pane view. You can see emails in your Inbox alongside what’s in your Priority mailbox, starred emails, or various other labels.

Now that you are able to manage your email better, Moo.do also integrates with other aspects, like tasks, notes, and appointments.

The different pane options include Outline, which allows you to create a simple to-do list, while the Agenda pane provides a calendar-like overview. You can drag and drop emails from your inbox into the relevant panes to ensure your emails are kept together with its relevant to-do list items. For example, emails related to a specific project can be placed in the relevant pane together with the items and appointments that need to be completed.

Tip: To add a new pane, simply click the ‘+’ icon in the top right.

Right clicking any of the items in your pane will bring up additional options. Add a date or time to any of your items by typing @ [insert time/date]. You can also tag a Google Contact for a specific task or appointment by adding a ‘+’ sign before their name.

If you have data in third-party services like Google Tasks, Trello, Wunderlist, Todoist and Workflowy you can also import it to Moo.do so all your important information is in one place.

Free Moo.do vs. the premium version

The free version of Moo.do integrates with Gmail, Mailbird, and Google Contacts while offline sync is limited to two days.

The premium version of Moo.do offers the same integration features as the free option, but also integrates with Google Drive and Google Calendar. While offline sync for premium users is 30 days. The premium plan costs $7 per month or $69 per year.  

Co-founders Meistrich and Watters plan to expand Moo.do in the future to be a tool used by larger organizations and not only individuals and small teams. Meistrich told TechCrunch, “We both have an understanding of how large teams work together from our time at Microsoft, so we have a lot of plans for how to grow into an enterprise collaboration tool.”
