Use case-based research offers insight into return on technology investments | #OOW

Nucleus Research, Inc. is a 16-year-old research company founded with the goal of providing a base level of research to vendors that offer technology focused on value. The company has published over 600 Return-On-Investment (ROI) case studies since its inception, and Nucleus Research offers the information about ROI in a way the CFO wants to see it. Essentially, the research helps customers build a business case.

Speaking with cohosts John Furrier (@furrier) and Peter Burris (@plburris), Rebecca Wettemann, cofounder and vice president at Nucleus Research, joined theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team to have a conversation about the ROI the enterprise is experiencing with cloud-based technology.

Increasing value in the cloud

According to Wettemann, she is seeing interesting trends when looking at research on ROI on cloud technology. “Cloud delivers 2.1 times the return on investment of on premise that’s up from 1.7 times a couple of years ago,” she reported. Going on to say cloud applications are becoming more complex, she also feels that more value is derived.

When talking about the lower initial cost of cloud, Wettemann believes there is a much bigger picture. Along with the lower initial cost and faster time to market value, there is an ability to get more value over time. The client no longer has to set it and forget it; they can take advantage of upgrades, vendor enhancements and investments in new features and realize greater benefits over time with a low cost structure.

“We tell clients if you don’t ever want to change, grow or expand your business, on premise is a great place for you to be. If you have great aspirations, cloud is a great way to get there,” Wettemann stated.

Affordable, accessible technology

Some of the research Wettemann’s company has uncovered shows that the customer has to look at the data, but there are other factors as well, such as the ease of installation and the investments that vendors are making to lower the risk for business. Right now technology companies are making technology accessible to a greater group of customers.
