Organizations reposition toward security and automation | #NXTWORK

As networks grow more important to modern business, so too must change the priorities of those who provide network solutions. Security and cloud services are coming into focus as a major concern for any company that does their business in the digital world. In response, tech companies have moved to integrate their products with these spaces.

To shed some light on moves toward security, John Furrier (@furrier) and Stu Miniman (@stu), co-hosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, visited the Juniper NXTWORK 2016 conference in Santa Clara, CA. There, they joined Brad Casemore, research director, Datacenter Networks, at IDC Research Inc.

Consumable networking innovations

The conversation began with a quick overview of how the market was looking at Juniper Networks and its products. Casemore mentioned how the service provider install base is ready to leverage a lot of what Juniper Networks provides. In enterprise, the story is more interesting because they’re considering either private cloud or security needs.

Case stated that Networks is trying to take innovations from large cloud players, package them and make them consumable for other businesses. This also means repositioning toward security. Networking and security are converging, a concept that Juniper has come to understand.

“Security is front and center,” Casemore said.

Meeting the Cloud security market

The topic shifted to competition and market opportunities. Casemore felt certain that one of these new opportunities was networking, and security, as a service. Vendors also are going to be very active in the Big Data space. Automation, too, was part of JuniperNetworks’ plan. Casemore explained that they were aggressively promoting its automation strategy.

Meanwhile, investors were also watching. Casemore spoke about how Wall Street was very concerned about the consequences of public cloud on the major players. How are the vendors responding? The investment community is paying a lot of attention to see how these companies are pursuing cloud opportunities.
