Hold on to your keyboards — another tech boom’s coming | #GSBfutureofinnovation

Who are the movers and shakers in Silicon Valley, and what are they excited about today? Better yet, who are tomorrow’s movers and shakers, and what can we divine about the future of IT from hobnobbing with them?

To answer these questions, Jeff Frick (@JeffFrick), co-host of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, chatted with Robert Siegel, partner at XSeed Capital and moderator of the Stanford Graduate School of Business Future of Innovation event. According to Siegel, if folks think it’s hard to keep the pace with tech innovation today, they better hold on to their hats.

“We’re at the end of a boom and bust cycle here in the Valley, and that means the new boom is going to be starting soon. And the good news is, no one knows what’s coming,” he said.

He said the imperative to be ahead of the curve in technology is more pressing than ever. “If we’re talking about it in the press, it’s already too late. The role of the venture capitalist is to be on the tip of the curve, or more importantly, following the entrepreneurs who are on the tip of the curve,” he explained.

Silicon Valley: the eye of an expanding storm

Siegel noted that the class of tech futurists at Stanford are remarkably global-minded.

“With the students, what we see is a very broad, global perspective. They understand that their businesses might start here in the Valley, but very quickly will become national and global operations, and they want to make sure that they can be getting to scale with a speed and and energy that’s required to have a real impact,” he said.
