Is Kubernetes ready for prime time? Looking for clues at KubeCon 2016

Is Kubernetes ready for prime time?

At KubeCon 2016, a Cloud Native Computing Foundation event, attendees will be hoping to learn from enterprise users whether the open-source container-management solution is a viable business investment. The event is a gathering of leading Kubernetes technologists to help further both the advancement and education of Kubernetes, Docker and Cloud Native architectures. SiliconANGLE will be at KubeCon 2016 with exclusive interviews from its roving news desk, theCUBE. (* Disclosure below.)

The Kubernetes project has shown strong growth and is backed by a diverse community, which includes CoreOS Inc. and Red Hat Inc. Last month, VMware Inc. announced the Kubernetes container management system is supported on its Photon platformIn an attempt to make Kubernetes easier to manage, CoreOS announced a new open-source software last week called “Operators” that makes cloud-native apps easier to run on Kubernetes.

Kubernetes 1.4 debuted on Sept. 26 with a range of new security enhancements, including the ability to add varying sets of permissions among tenants, infrastructure components and system end-users. Such ongoing improvements to the system continue to attract developer support, and this impact to the IT job market will be another area of interest for theCUBE’s coverage.

Speakers at KubeCon 2016 include Sam Ghods, co-founder and services architect at Box Inc.; Chen Goldberg leads the Container Engine and OSS Kubernetes project engineering team at Google Inc.; Kelsey Hightower, developer advocate at Google; and Ben Sigelman, co-founder of LightStep Inc.

Other guest speakers include Brandon Philips, chief technical officer at CoreOS; Fabian Reinartz, software engineer and tech lead at CoreOS; and Erik St. Martin, systems architect at Comcast Corp.
