Amazon deal is not the be-all, end-all in VMware’s cloud strategy, says CMO | #theCUBE

When Amazon Web Services and VMware Inc. announced their landmark partnership recently, it was deemed by many to be the launch of an unstoppable dual force in cloud. What combination of VMware and cloud could compete with a VMware-Amazon double-threat?

According to VMware, its Cross-Cloud-Architecture is rich with alternative choices for customers — including those who would rather not run anything on Amazon.

Robin Matlock, chief marketing officer of VMware Inc., stated those who would reduce VMware’s cloud strategy to “the Amazon deal” would be mistaken. She told John Furrier (@furrier), host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile live streaming studio, that VMware wants to give customers the same kind of seamless experience regardless of how it builds out its particular clouds. The conversation was conducted onsite at the VMware campus in Palo Alto, CA, this week as part of an editorial series of interviews intended to find out what’s coming next for the virtualization products maker.

“For customers, it shouldn’t feel like very siloed separate experiences, environments, different tools,” Matlock said.”They should be able to leverage their resources to be able to deliver these workloads in whatever cloud they choose.”

Scoot over, Amazon

Matlock also said that Cross-Cloud Architecture is a response to customers who liked VMware’s private cloud but wanted the same experience in public cloud. “Obviously, Amazon is the brand in public cloud,” she stated.

But, Matlock added, Amazon is one among many viable choices. “We also have the IBM cloud that’s available to them; we have over 4,000 service providers that provide specialty cloud services that are available to our customers,” she said.
