AI hiring platform startup Belong raises $10M from Sequoia Capital

Artificial intelligence-based hiring platform startup Belong Technologies India Pvt. Ltd. has raised a $10 million later-stage funding round led by Sequoia Capital India.

Founded in 2014, the Bangalore-based company claims to help organizations discover, engage and hire relevant talent at the right time using a data-driven solution. The company says its solution helps hiring teams spot candidates who best fit their requirements and are most inclined to move and engage with them through personalized interactions.

Belong is seeking to address a challenge in the hiring solutions market that sees diminishing returns on inbound hiring as top talent no longer applies for jobs. By using machine intelligence, Belong’s platform helps recruiters target “high relevant candidates” who are “open to pursuing new opportunities,” or put less pleasantly the AI uses online data to work out whether someone is unhappy in their current role and might be interested in being recruited.

The company claims that is solutions enable recruiters to convert target candidates into interested candidates three times more efficiently than traditional platforms and is currently being used by companies including Amazon.com Inc., Cisco Systems Inc., Ola, Thoughtworks Inc. and Xiaomi Inc.

Along with the funding, Belong also introduced a new service called BelongExperts. The marketplace connects companies with specialist recruiters and also connects them directly with candidates for niche roles. The product is said to be already being used 20 companies including Uber Technologies Inc. and LendingKart.

The funding round included existing investor Matrix Partners India. As part of the deal Gautam Mago, managing director of Sequoia Capital India, will join Belong’s board of directors. Including the new funding, Belong has raised $15 million to date. Previous investors include Blume Ventures, Kunal Bahl, Phanindra Sama, Raju Reddy and Rohit Bansal.

The company said it would use the Series B funding to accelerate product development, expand sales and support operations, and hire new talent across engineering, data science, enterprise sales and customer service.
