Virtualitics raises $4.4M to visualize data in virtual reality

Virtualitics Inc., a startup that created a 3D data visualization platform for virtual reality, announced today that it has raised $4.4 million in a Series A funding round.

The round was led by The Venture Reality Fund, a Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm that invests in virtual, augmented and mixed-reality startups.

Based out of Pasadena, California, Virtualitics offers a data visualization platform that combines artificial intelligence, Big Data and virtual reality to create interactive 3D data models. Virtualitics’ platform is a VR application that allows users to generate complex data models composed of up to 10 dimensions of data, all in a shared virtual office where users can collaborate and analyze the data together. Using machine learning, Virtualitics’ platform is also able to recommend optimal visualizations that gives users a better understanding of the whole picture for their data.

According to the company, virtual reality offers a more intuitive way for people to visualize data and gain insights into complicated datasets.

“Our technology enables organizations of all sizes, across any sector, to more effectively identify meaningful patterns in data that can lead to better business outcomes, cost savings and significant competitive advantage,” Virtualitics co-founder and Chief Executive Michael Amori said in a statement.

Virtualitics’ founders include former data and computer science professors from the California Institute of Technology, and the team’s user interface expert, Scott Davidoff, oversaw the design of the UI used by NASA to control all spacecraft produced by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

“Virtualitics is harnessing the power of VR/AR and artificial intelligence to present and analyze big data in an unprecedented way,” said Marco DeMiroz, co-founder and general partner at The Venture Reality Fund. “The company’s platform is truly transformative and can be applied to any industry that relies heavily on data analytics, representing tremendous market opportunity on a global scale.”

Virtualitics’ platform is currently still in closed beta testing, and the company has not revealed when it will be fully available. Businesses interested in trying out Virtualitics can apply for beta access on the company’s website.
