Not wanting Pennsylvania to be the next reception nightmare, an AT&T rep has contacted me with some promising 2010 numbers: In 2010, AT&T plans the following enhancements to its wireless network: - Pennsylvania: adding more than 60 cell sites, upgrading nearly 400 to 3G technology. - New Jersey: adding nearly 10 cell sites, upgrading more than 5 to 3G technology. - Delaware: adding of nearly half a dozen cell sites. - AT&T employees more than 3,200 employees in the Commonwealth. This looks very promising indeed. My Blackberry on AT&T does the oddest things sometimes and I had clients in Philadelphia say having reception underground on the train is cool, but, having clear reception at home would be

Om Malik thinks so. I’m not so sure. Om talked to Hulu CEO, Jason Kilar at the DLD conference in Munich this week and talked specifically about the iPad plans for the popular destination site for Heritage Media video. Of course, Jason, who graduated from the Jeff Bezos School of Management, and like his former boss plays his cards close to the vest, didn’t reveal anything specific. When I asked Kilar if he was going to make a special version of a Hulu app for the iPad, Kilar said: “We are very big believers in mobile and we don’t think about (just) one device only.” My translation: Expect Hulu to be on multiple platforms such as the iPhone and Android. I would expect the Android version to show up first because it s

Apple Launches iPad. You know it’s bad when the salesman has to visualize his product for you. He sat on a couch and demonstrated right? Wow, so let's recap: iPad runs almost all of the over 140,000 apps on the App Store, including apps already purchased for your iPhone® or iPod touch®. The iTunes® Store gives you access to the world’s most popular online music, TV and movie store with a catalog of over 11 million songs, over 50,000 TV episodes and over 8,000 films including over 2,000 in stunning high definition video. Apple also announced the new iBooks app for iPad, which includes Apple’s new iBookstore, the best way to browse, buy and read books on a mobile device. The iBookstore will feature books from major and in

Today I want to talk about possibilities. In reading John Furrier's great post about Google's impending dominance in the world of cloud computing, at SiliconANGLE and its network this story has sparked interest, questions, and discussion. There are several thoughts I had and wanted to share some perspective on this. Oh yes, Google is poised to dominate, but pull up a seat because we will be in for a show when a challenger appears. Who will it be? Where will it come from? It's hard to say, but there are several factors that might play a role. Let's talk possibilities - a billion dollar question indeed. The Cloud and Business Adoption The fundamental shift to cloud-based and SaaS computing is h

Apple users are a confusing bunch. Yay they have the iPhone and it's beautiful look and software potential but Nay for the "I have control and you don't" feel. What to do? I guess the best way for iPhone users to have their cake and eat it too is to hack their device. What does that do? Hacking your iPhone basically give you administrator permissions. Some call it root privileges but it's the same thing: the choice to add applications iTunes does not offer. The chance to customize your iPhone in a way not authorized by Apple. This is about the second version for the iPhone 3gs because whenever AAPL updates the device, a new hack is needed. This is what confuses me when intelligent, savvy writers from Techcrunch and Engadget e

You know I had to do a comparison. What tipped the scales for me had to be reading this anti-Android post at TheNextWeb. Since I don't own an iPhone or Android device, maybe I won't get flamed for being a Nokia fan. Let's start with the practical things first shall we? Battery Life = The lowest talk time on the iPhone is 5 hours on 3g. The N1 isn't known but it has a huge 1400mah battery. Is that better? Not really since the iPhone doesn't run more than one app at a time. Prepare to juice back up your multi-tasking Android as soon as you get home. Speed = This counts in a big way. To compare your device to computers, it makes sense to have comparable speed. iPhone 3gs has a smoking ARM Cortex A8 600 MHz, PowerVR SGX graphics setup sque

[Editor’s Note: I sat down with Sean Percival (founder of LalaWag, and generally the man about town in the LA tech scene) earlier this week, as I have with many others, to get their thoughts on what’s going on in their corner of tech and guage their predictions for the coming year in 2010. Sean and I covered a lot of ground, and he demoed his favorite gadgets. We talked a bit about the coming IPO landscape and the all important Apple tablet. Before the holidays hit, many of us here at SiliconANGLE excitedly talked about the possibility of a network independent gPhone that was rumored to be called the Nexus-One. After a variety of different confirmations of different types, we all whiled away the time in our respective corners on how we all figured the Nexus One would be a game-changer for the mobile world. See our previous coverage on the Nexus One Predictions 2010: Sean P. Aune’s List Mobile Monday: Mobile App News for Week of December 13th Details of the NexusOne keep leaking out all over the place Mobile Monday: Mobile App News for Week of December 6th Today, the news is that the network of choice for this phone will be T-Mobile, although that’s a

I’ve been playing news item avoidance all day on the iPhone / AT&T / NYC story all day. In case you somehow missed it, here’s what happened: Someone discovered that you can no longer buy the iPhone on the AT&T website if you live in New York City. Fake Steve Jobs and others widely publicized the fact that this was due to network capacity issues, although AT&T later revised their statement to say that it was due to fraud issues on the website. I made mention, several times, on Twitter and Friendfeed that I just couldn’t bring myself to care about this topic. I couldn’t put my finger on it, although after responding to the question “Why?” about a half-dozen times, I think I’ve put my finger on it. I

I’ve been pouring over yesterday’s news of Google’s AdMob acquisition, and given the conversations I’ve had with various members of the mobile ad monetization industry, I’m left wondering if Google didn’t acquire the wrong company. At the very least, I’m left curious as to the motivations behind the AdMob purchase. Stick with me here, and keep in mind I’m not saying this because Millennial Media is a sponsor of SiliconANGLE (yes, that’s right, in-line disclosure), I’m saying this because I’ve spent hours on the phone with industry analysts and peers in the mobile monetization business, and the only thing I’m convinced that AdMob maintains leadership in is public relations. Back in July, John Furrier and I spent a
