Starting this Friday: The Cube, Broadcasting Live from Austin [SxSWi]

March 11, 2010

In case you haven’t heard, there’s a little gathering of geeks taking place in my home state, starting this week, called South by Southwest. Naturally I’ll be down there attempting to bring relevance from the chaos which generally is that event. I’ll be assisted by Michael Sean Wright, Robert Scoble, Leo Laporte and a cast of dozens. You’ll be able to find my primary coverage here at SiliconANGLE, but also showing up on the TWiT Network, The Inquisitr, Nicefishfilms, Rizzn.com, and elsewhere. In the mornings, I’ll be roaming the halls of the convention center hunting down interviews, and in the afternoons, Michael and I will be anchoring a few hours of live coverage from the Texas Coworking Studios, followed by Leo’s regula

Beyond the Press Release – Announcing Startup CEO Posts – Transparency and Direct Messaging

March 4, 2010

Today we are launching an experiment.  Starting today startup CEO's can post their opinion, vision, and their "angle" on the market they are going after. Why? Over the past few months we've noticed that startup CEOs wanted to get their message out about their vision and value proposition in a way not dependent on begging for the approval by influential blogs. In addition more and more the press release is becoming more irrelevant every day and social media is taking center stage. The world is moving toward transparency and this is part of that movement. Over the past few months, we've been getting inquiries from companies to get coverage.  Some of the companies PR firms I have a positive relationship with and know th

SiliconANGLE Out at #CES2010 en Masse!

January 6, 2010

As I said earlier, it seems that this year’s CES has generated a great deal more buzz than the CES events of years past (I remember in 2007, a strong debate as to whether the event had jumped the shark completely). I just wanted to give you, the readers and community, the heads up on the strong response we’ve received to our call to our contributors to go and cover the event with SiliconANGLE. We created a group on our internal network to assist the contributors in getting their press credentials, and today we’ll be converting that group over to a place to get the latest information and news coming out of the event direct from the source and unfiltered. I wanted to just put up this quick post this morning to say thanks to all the

Merry Christmas Eve [No News is Good News]

December 24, 2009

As you’ve probably heard me say many times, if you’re a regular reader of these pages at all, we like to think of ourselves here at SiliconANGLE as less of a news blog and more of a group of thought leaders. As editor of a site full of thought leaders, monitoring their published thoughts is often humbling, but lets me constantly keep my thumb on the pulse of what’s important in the tech world. If you were to ask me right now what the tech-set is thinking about right now, I can tell you that it’s distinctly non-tech in nature.  Certainly, I and many of my peers have been spending a lot of time thinking back over the landmark events of 2009 and what we think 2010 will hold for us all, but with few exceptions, the last couple

Updates to SiliconANGLE, and Peek into Our Roadmap

November 9, 2009

Over the last couple of weekends, I’ve been wearing my administrator hat and working my fingers to the bone while working to prepare the SiliconANGLE community features for the next level.  I just wanted to take a minute and outline some of the new Alpha-ish features we’re rolling out in the next several days, and some changes you may have noticed with your SiliconANGLE account. Upgrade to the New BuddyPress On the face of things, the new BuddyPress isn’t much different from the previous version, but the new version does a lot of backend fixes when it comes to theming, so hopefully we’ll soon get the inside of our site, the social networking side, to come into line with what the outward facing side of the site is. There als

SiliconANGLE’s SAP TechEd 09 Live Coverage

October 13, 2009

Today marks the start of the SAP TechEd gathering in Phoenix, Arizona. In case you’re unfamiliar with the event, it’s an IT conference with a focus on inspiring the attendees as well as providing hands on workshops, lectures and community discussions. We’ll be covering live, in our typical liveblog format, the event from start to finish. SiliconANGLE regular contributor Idarose Sylvester will be spearheading the effort, though if you plan to attend, and you’re just a reader or member of the SiliconANGLE community, we’d love to include your coverage along with hers and the other handpicked tweets and posts we come across during the event. >> Watch our coverage live I’m particularly looking forward to the keynote speech

SALabs’ October Silicon Valley Cloud Club Report [Part 1]

October 7, 2009

[Editor’s Note: Our San Francisco Cloud Club (in partnership with the Silicon Valley one) meeting that took place Monday was a rousing success, with a pretty impressive turnout for our first meeting. James Watters and Rich Miller both took extensive notations of the event. James Watters you probably know as our Managing Director of Cloud Computing, but Rich Miller you may not. He’s very active on Twitter with the cloud computing usual suspects and serves as CEO of Replicate Technologies, a provider of predictive fault management for virtualized datacenters. Below are the slightly edited and cleaned up notes from part of the event – there are more agenda items and Q&As we’ll be posting over the course of the next few days a

Huffington Post Hires ex-WaPo Political Reporter to Head Up Tech Coverage

September 21, 2009

This bit of news is something we at SiliconANGLE was privy to a while back: Huffington Post is opening up a technology coverage area. I found some official reporting on it today over at Andy Plesser’s Beet.TV: Jose says in this interview that "technology is anthropology" and the site will address how technology is used and how it affects society. It will be interesting to see how this page will be heard above the roar of  the mass of technology publications and blogs.  It surely has some advantages.  The site will have extremely high search optimization and traffic.   The publication claims 20 million unique users per month. We found out about it here several months ago due to being liste

Another status update, folks. Buckle in…

September 3, 2009

Another status update, folks. Buckle in. So we had set up a development server while we waited on the paperwork to process on our desired production server, and given that this was an emergency move and that the production server we signed up for was tied to some paperwork on another, slower moving deal, we made the decision to try to turn the development server into a temporary production server. Turns out that probably wasn't the best decision. After tinkering around and getting MU+BP set up, it was clear the virtualization settings weren't quite right for what we were trying to do, and we were forced to abandon installation until they're rectified at about 4AM last night. Fortunately, at this point, the solution we've all been tryin

We’ve made some pretty good progress on…

September 2, 2009

We've made some pretty good progress on the surgical rebuild of SiliconANGLE. It turns out that our install is far too powerful to exist on the current instance that this blog currently resides. We've always had "solidwebs.net" set up as a testing/staging server for major changes on SiliconANGLE, and when Bluehost kicked us off, we figured we could simply re-direct the domain over here and continue unabated. Unfortunately, when we tried to merge the databases, it completely borked, and hence this P2 theme to house our work while we get the real servers online. As for the progress on that - we've turned up a new colo box that's eventually destined to be our staging server. You can follow our progress by checking (http://siliconangle.net/
