Big Baby is a Big Baby #NBA #Celtics

Words hurt.

Celtics forward Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis is facing a potential fine from the NBA for his very audible expletive directed at a heckling fan in Detroit on Wednesday night. The fan, identified as Scott Zack, was heard repeatedly calling Davis ‘fat boy’ and ‘chubs’ during the game, which the Celtics lost. Pretty standard, if uncreative, stuff. I enjoy calling someone fat as much as the next guy but you are going to have to do better than a ‘chubs’ blast.

This is a perfect example of both parties being idiots.

Idiot #1: Glen Davis. You play in the NBA. You are overweight. Fans like to run their mouths. You are an easy target. You WILL get called fat. That doesn’t mean that you can start spewing profanities loud enough to be picked up by both radio and TV broadcasts. If you don’t like what you are hearing, if you think it is becoming abusive, have the moron fan removed. Talk to security and deal with it.  Either that or lose weight....lots of weight.

Part of being a professional athlete, fairly or unfairly, is dealing with morons in the stands who think that buying a ticket gives them a license to act like an ass. Just because they are acting the fool, doesn’t mean that you have to fall in line with them. Get the guy tossed, play your game and keep moving.

More than anything, this is another example of Davis being an easy hook with rabbit ears as big as his waistline. He missed the first 27 games of the season with a bad thumb after an ‘incident’. Even his own coach says he needs to be more responsible.

Doc Rivers:

"I don't think it's a huge step backwards [in Davis' maturity], but it is a step backwards. Glen Davis has to grow up."

Idiot #2: Scott Zack, and all fans like him. What is your deal? What’s the matter with you? What's your motivation? Does it really make you feel better about yourself to heckle someone? Do you go home after the game smiling because you got some immature basketball player to react to your rantings? Your life is that empty?

Shockingly, this took place in Philly.

Trust me, while some people in your immediate area might have snickered and laughed and thought you were mildly entertaining, most people thought you were a fool. Most people wish you would stop and just sit down so they can watch the game without some loudmouth harassing some fat guy.

We have all seen that guy. The guy who might say something funny early, getting a mild reaction, and that’s it. That’s all he needs; game on. For the rest of the night, as he gets drunker, more reckless, and more insufferable. Everyone hates being near him.

The art of heckling is just that, an art. It isn't an endless stream of fat bombs, or 'you suck' chants. Get creative, think of something new. A good heckler can enhance the game experience, but it is nearly impossible to do well, so don't even try.

Glen Davis needs to grow up and learn to deal with idiots in a more productive manner, but that doesn’t excuse people from being idiots in the first place.
