NBA commissioner David Stern has dropped the hammer - again- and told Wizards' Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton to go home for the rest of the NBA season. Hope that bringing your ‘piece’ (s) to the locker room was worth it.
That’s one hell of a ‘joke’. Best prank ever Gil. Way to be committed to the art of pranking.
Stern was beautifully brutal in his assessment of why he dropped Arenas (and his sidekick) for the rest of the season:
"I felt that I should do something to keep Arenas from doing even further damage to himself and I told him that," Stern said. "We also try to protect [players] from doing things that are foolish and damaging. I felt that Gilbert was in the process of doing that and it was incumbent on me to stop it."
Taken out of commish-speak and put into plain language: “Do not mess with me. You were stupid enough to bring a gun into the workplace, but then you did something even more dangerous, you jerked my chain. Sit your ass down.”
Arenas has reportedly accepted the punishment, agrees with the decision and will not appeal. Crittenton has not gotten on board and he and the players' union are exploring ways to fight the decision. Good luck with that JC. You do know that you are Javaris Crittenton and he is David Stern, right? I don’t know what the odds are on Stern v. Crittenton, but I’ll lay the points and take the commish, no matter what the number is.
The Wizards have to be thrilled that Javaris Crittenton (career 5.3 ppg, 1.8 apg) has caused them a problem of this magnitude. His zero minutes played this season have really been worth the headaches. At least Gil can knock down a big shot for you once in a while, even if he is half crazy, not very smart, and strapped. Crittenton is worthless as a player and he might get someone shot in the locker room. Not the kind of double-double teams are looking for.
If Gilbert Arenas, one of the league's stars (kind of), is going to accept getting shut down, then Crittenton better get in line as well. Instead of fighting Stern, he should send a hand-written letter to the commissioner, thanking him for his benevolence and humanity and expressing great gratitude that he wasn’t banned for life. He’s David Stern, do not mess with him. He’s Darth Vader with a suit and tie. I wouldn’t be even a little bit surprised if he could do that choke thing with his fingers from across the room. Darth Stern finds Crittenton's lack of faith disturbing.
Hopefully, every other wannabe thug, comedian, or fool in the NBA will see what happened and decide to never bring a gun into an NBA arena; or if they already have, very carefully, and very quietly load up their weapons cache and take them home.
What Arenas thought was a joke, and what Crittenton escalated, could have been a colossal disaster for the NBA. If someone would have gotten shot in the locker room, it would have made Ron Artest going into the seats to knock out fans look like a picnic in the park.
Moral of the story? Don’t bring guns to work, and especially don’t bring them if your boss happens to be David Stern.
JC will not win this faceoff ,but he has more to fight for then Gil. Gil will be released by the Wiz but will still get a chunk of his contract and then he has the opportunity to sign another free agent deal. JC is fighting for what little dough he is owed.
JC should have thought of that before he turned the locker room into the OK Corral.
Ironically he now really needs Gilbert to pay that debt.
