Perfection Denied #NFL #Colts

Most ridiculous poster ever.

The Indianapolis Colts are only five days away from winning what might possibly be the least fulfilling Super Bowl season in history.

I wrote about it at the time, argued about it endlessly, and I will say it again. If the Colts win the Super Bowl it will be a tragedy for anyone who loves greatness and perfection.

Yes, I know that winning the Super Bowl is the goal at the beginning of every season. I know that there are thousands of fans and players that would do just about anything to win a Super Bowl. I get it, and as ridiculous as it sounds to say that winning a championshipand winning the Super Bowl is not good enough, it isn't good enough if you're the Colts.

They didn't fight for perfection.

When did Nipsey Russel start calling himself Mercury Morris?

The Colts had an opportunity to do something even greater than being champions. They were given the the chance to transcend sport. To go beyond the NFL and be perfect. To be the standard by which every other great team is measured. The 1972 Dolphins aren’t even close to being the greatest team ever, but they still get mentioned every single season, nearly 40 years later. They get mentioned for one reason, perfection. Mercury Morris, Larry Csonka and the rest of that team get to show up and ruin our Sundays every season because they did something that no one else has ever done; they won every single game they played.

There is stupid, very stupid, and then there is this...

The Colts had a chance to not only render the 1972 Dolphins irrelevant, but to be the only NFL team to ever finish 19-0. 19 is more than 17, nice knowing you Dolphins. At least that is what should be happening.

Someone wins the Super Bowl every year, but rarely does a team get the opportunity to be perfect. The Patriots nearly did it just two years ago, but couldn’t finish. The Colts lost two games because they simply didn’t try. They rolled and played it safe. And I don’t care how many times Peyton Manning says that he was OK with the decision, I believe he wasn’t. I saw the look on his face. He knows. Manning is a student of the game, has as good a feel for the game's history as anyone, and he knew what they were giving up. Sports immortality.

He has won a Super Bowl, and will likely win more, but he knows he will never have a chance to go 19-0 again, and his team decided to not even make a fight for it.

The Colts are favored to win on Sunday, and if Manning is Manning, they will win. Just keep in mind, when they are surrounded by falling confetti, and Roger Goodell jams that silver trophy into Manning’s hands, and as good as that moment will be, it could have been so much better.

Is it me or did Mercury Morris look healthier when he was doing drugs? I know sobriety is tough, but Mercury looks tore up from the floor up. The Alex Haley "Roots" afro isn't very flattering also.

Some where, Gene Rayburn and the "long, skinny" mic are having a laugh.

  2. Merc is a sad sack. I have seen him wandering around the Super Bowl on numerous occasions, just hoping that someone will ask him to talk about rthe '72 Dolphins.

Travis is still as obnoxious as he was way back during his days at UCSB. How on earth does Sue Harmon put up with him after all of these years ? Even Jim Rome got tired of his schtick and finally kicked him to the curb.
