Houston Day 4

Worst press conference ever!

Day 4 in Houston is in the books. A little different today, with Richard Justice from the Houston Chronicle sitting in with myself and Lance. Always good to have him in for one reason. I have to pay attention. Justice is smart. Much smarter than me and I actually need to think about what I am going to say before I say it. I hate it when that happens.

Other than the obligatory Rockets trade discussion, Tiger Woods and his absurd ‘press conference’ announcement was the topic of the day. In the immortal words of Comic Book Guy, “Worst idea ever.”

NO questions? A hand picked group of reporters? Why say anything at all? Why go to the trouble of setting this thing up if you really aren’t going to say anything in the first place?

I’ll tell you exactly why. Because he is an arrogant narcissist who thinks that he can do what ever the hell he wants and everyone should be thrilled that he has granted them an audience. He thinks if he gives people 5 minutes of pre-rehearsed time then all is good. It isn’t. He chose now to make the announcement for another simple reason; to jam Accenture.

It is not a coincidence that the guy is deciding to talk at the same exact time that Accenture’s signature event, the Match Play, is taking place. Tiger is a vindictive, self-centered, world class grudge holder and this is his way to slap them back. If Gatorade, Tag Heuer, or any of his other former sponsors had events, he would find a way to try and screw them too.

Say what you want Tiger, do your thing, just don’t think for a second that this means you actually did the right thing. You didn’t.

I think Justice really enjoyed having you there, too. He's definitely a journalist first, and asking people questions is something he does really well. He got some interesting discussions going between you and Lance. Looking forward to the last day. It's been great so far.

Ernie Els said it best concenrning Tiger Woods' press lecture. He said that Woods was being selfish for choosing Friday of the Accenture World Match Play Championship to make his "announcement."

Tiger...Cheetah...whatever you want to call him continues to degrade his status as the best golfer ever, as well as a person with his outlandish actions. We, as sports fans, don't need to know the sordid details of his affairs, but we do deserve a sincere and contrite apology from Tiger. He sold us a bill of goods that he was squeaky clean and above reproach. Turns out the goods were damaged and worse, it was rotting underneath the perfect wrapping.

I, for one, will not be partaking in this travesty. At 8:00 a.m. PST, I'll be watching Fireman Sam on PBS Sprout with my two year old son. At least Fireman Sam doesn't try to sex up all the females in town and lie about it to his wife. Come to think about it neither do the following PBS characters: Cookie Monster, Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, and Elmo. I can't speak to Bert and Ernie because of their "special relationship." (I know, I know they're only puppets.)

This has been a great week. I get in the car to go to work, Travis is on, I get in the car to go home, Travis is on; what an awesome time this has been. I'll be sad to see (read: hear) you go Trav. I look forward to you every Thursday, and this week has spoiled me.

Maybe you should move to Houston and get a regular gig ;-)

  4. I agree with almost all of this Wayne.
