Vokle, the Virtual Town Hall
A microsite application puts the functionality of a television studio — switching between cameras and remote video feeds, among other things — into a simple computer, and the video stream can be embedded and displayed in a blog or Web page.
The Vokle app, still in beta, allows two-way communication between a host and what the company is calling a “virtual town hall” on the Web. Video calls and text questions from viewers can be screened by co-hosts before being posted. A built-in computer camera or external cameras can be used in conjunction with the app at multiple locations.
In this interview, Edward Dekeratry, Vokle’s chief marketing officer, discusses with me the application’s abilities using the Adobe Flash Player and talks about what the Santa Monica company plans for future development.
The Vokle application has gotten test trials by several personalities and organizations, including the political news and opinion site, Huffington Post.
