HyTrust Giving IT Departments Control of their Cloud

Another interesting revelation from the VMworld 2010 Conference: HyTrust Cloud Control. With cloud computing adoption on the rise and numerous services cropping up across the landscape, different mechanisms for taking control and keeping control will become extremely important. HyTrust expects to enhance this with HyTrust Cloud Control as an integration solution with VMware vCloud Director.

Coupled with VMware vCloud Director, the policy-based control and granular per-organization audit capability enabled by HyTrust Cloud Control provides customers the ability to confidently incorporate a cloud-based service model into their IT strategy and extend from private cloud to hybrid cloud without compromising security, control and compliance.

HyTrust, from Mountain View, CA, are a leader in policy management and access control for virtual architecture. So, it might come as no surprise that the HyTrust Cloud Control product is precisely that: an access control suite for cloud computing. Since cloud computing models make use of storage and computing off-site they need some sort of management interface, and the more secure, closer to home, and more intuitive that interface the better off the IT department using it.

From their unveiling at the conference, here is a list of the capabilities,

Specific capabilities supported by HyTrust Cloud Control include

  • Multi-factor authentication and federated identity;
  • Persistent zoning for multi-tenancy;
  • Advanced protection of sensitive workloads in the cloud;
  • Granular role-based access control for separation of duties;
  • Detailed audit logging for compliance; and
  • Hardening and monitoring of the cloud services platform.

For those interested, there will also be a narrated demo and prototype available at the VMworld 2010 Conference in San Francisco from August 30th until September 3rd in booth #236.
