New TiVo Offer Brings Personalized Internet Radio via Pandora

TiVo Inc. is living up to their promise of delivering the best of cable, movies, web and music, all in one box, as it announced the availability of Pandora application on all broad-band connected TiVo Premiere boxes starting today.  It’s another advancement for TiVo, which has struggled to remain relevant in today’s consumer market.

The new application is powered by The Music Genome Project, an in-depth musical taxonomy that uses musicological “DNA” and frequent listener feedback to build personalized stations from hundreds of thousands of tracks.  Mark your preferences on each song, and Pandora will continue to customize your radio stations accordingly.

“Just as TiVo revolutionized your television and personalized your viewing content, the Pandora application brings additional music customization to the all-in-one TiVo box,” according to Jim Denney, VP and GM of Product Marketing for TiVo. “With Pandora now available on TiVo Premiere, we offer customers even more options when it comes to music including personalized on-demand radio, audio podcasts, music videos, music from your PC, and more through the TV and with just one remote.”  Pandora stations created on TiVo can also be accessed via PCs, smartphones and other attached devices.

The array of remote-access tools and applications has vastly expanded since TiVo came on the scene several years ago.  The new Pandora integration extends another point of access for Pandora users, while also expanding its areas of distribution.  The smartphone revolution has really helped Pandora take its product offerings to the next level, so expansion from here is another smart move for the music service.  This makes Pandora more competitive with the likes of Rhapsody, which has employed the multi-point access methodology for some time now.

In other music news, Napster has finally made its way to the iPhone as a free app in the iTunes App Store. Stream its 10+ million songs on-demand, and get full account options with a Mobile Access subscription.
