Cisco and Jawbone Introduce a Wireless Headset for Cellular and Office Phones

Cisco Systems has made a pact with Jawbone to combine their expertise and engage with the problem of switching between headsets for use with cellular phones and office phones. The Wall Street Journal has the scoop on the story,

The companies on Thursday unveiled a headset that allows users to connect simultaneously from their cellphones and Cisco desk and wireless phones based on the technology known as VoIP, for voice over Internet protocol. That means users don’t have to shift from one kind of headset to another when the different phones ring, the companies said.

Cisco is well known for their Internet and communications devices they seem to be trending towards reaching into the market to create more devices that use the Internet—thus increasing the bandwidth running over the infrastructure, hopefully compelling service providers and networks to purchase more of their expensive routers to keep up. Jawbone has been a manufacturer of headsets—and is actually the company Aliph in disguise, named after one of their more famous Bluetooth products.

It also seems to be a trend of Cisco recently to work to merge personal and business applications with technology. They recently released an interoperability product that affordably places telepresence systems into homes to connect telecommuters with businesses from home. By solving the problem of having to switch between technologies, Cisco is using their Internet and networking muscle to give companies the edge in allowing their employees to become more mobile.
