HP Appoints 3PAR CEO David Scott to lead StorageWorks

HP today announced David Scott as new Senior Vice President and general manager for HP Storage Works. He will directly report to EVP Dave Donatelli for HP’s Enterprise Servers, Storage and Networking.  Coming from 3Par, Scott’s new appointment is an extension of the acquisition HP fought so hard for.

“Storage continues to be a critical aspect of IT, especially as organizations reduce the complexity of their IT environments, increase their use of virtualization and move towards cloud computing models through HP’s Converged Infrastructure,” said Donatelli. “David’s leadership at 3PAR and previously at HP will be critical in taking HP StorageWorks to the next level.”

Scott is responsible for 3Par’s new category of storage, designed for service providers and cloud computer environments labeled as “utility storage.” He and his 27 years of experience in the enterprise storage, software and server market launched 3PAR to global success, serving large and midsize enterprises, government sectors and service providers worldwide. His appointment at HP could mean a greater success for the company, as he’s already familiar with HP products, StorageWorks in particular, through their dealings with 3PAR.  He also held various other positions.

“To help clients address the top storage challenges today, HP has made some key product introductions this year such as P4000 SAN for virtualized environments, StoreOnce for enterprise-wide data deduplication and the X9000 for scalable network-attached storage,” said Scott. “Now with 3PAR’s lineup, HP has significantly enhanced its intellectual property in storage, allowing the company to improve how organizations harness the power of technology to drive their businesses.”

In related news, HP also named Leo Apotheker as its new CEO, replacing Mark Hurd after a very public departure.
