Logitech Revue Plus Google TV: Complete Home Entertainment Experience

Yesterday brought the officiaLl announcement of Google TV, with the launch of its mini site, describing the upcoming service. As one of its launch partners, Logitech got its time in the spotlight, as its set top box will be one of the devices required for the Google TV service.

Now we have word of the Logitech Revue, which is the interface tool for Google TV. It consists of a controller and keyboard for media controls. There’s also a mini controller, which is a smaller, compact keyboard.

It’s been a nice transition for Logitech, as the manufacturer has been making remotes and interfacing tools for PCs and televisions. It elps solidify the convergence the launch of Google TV means for a heavily integrated media web experience.

“Logitech Revue with Google TV makes it easy for people to use just one controller to find and enjoy content from a variety of sources – programs from TV providers; the entire Web, including Flash-based games; music, photos and videos from their personal library; and a growing selection of apps,” said Ashish Arora, vice president and general manager of Logitech’s digital home products group. “Logitech not only delivers the Google TV experience for any HDMI-ready TV, but we build on it with exceptional interface devices, control of living room components through Logitech Harmony Link and enhanced experiences such as video calling in the living room.”

The media prowess of Logitech’s Google TV features doesn’t end with the controller. The Logitech TV Cam will enable HD video calls, bypassing the computer all together. With the Revue box acting as your router, you’re ready to go. We’ve had firsthand experience with the cameras, experimenting with them in our media lab, and we really like them.

The other selling point of Logitech’s bundle is access to the Google TV Apps. These will span premium channels, social media tools, user-generated video channels and more. Google’s landed partners like Time Warner and HBO, and you’ll also have access to apps like Twitter, or Flickr. Google TV is also another platform for Google to push its own apps, including YouTube, Picassa, Gmail and web search.

Combined, Logitech is teaming with Google to offer a complete home entertainment experience, powered by the web. This is an area a lot of brands are going to be able to take advantage of, driving business behind the cloud as well as new media marketing.

Available for pre-order today on Logitech.com, Amazon.com and BestBuy.com, Logitech’s line of products for Google TV are expected to be available online and in Best Buy stores across the U.S. by the end of October. The Logitech Revue with Google TV suggested retail price is $299.99 (U.S.). The Logitech Mini Controller suggested retail price is $129.99 (U.S.). And the Logitech TV Cam suggested retail price is $149.99 (U.S.).

In addition to being bundled with the Logitech Revue, the Logitech Keyboard Controller will be available for purchase online as an individual item to work with other Google TV systems and will have a suggested retail price of $99.99 (U.S.).

Cisco announced its own telepresence bundle today, taking its communications tools into the home for business or personal use. From the web-to-consumer angle comes Skype, which is ramping up efforts of its own, seeking an IPO and deeper integration across end-user access points, be them social networks or smartphones.
