RIM Expands OS6 with BB Style, Hopes for UAE

RIM has been working on significantly expanding its reachable market and customer-base for quite some time now, and after putting a whole lot of cards on the table, the company is now beginning to push forward on all fronts. The first star of this campaign is none other than the newly launched BB Style for Sprint, a device running on BBOS6, which we covered here.

“Sprint [the BB Style’s carrier] has told us it hopes the Style’s form factor will bring in the messaging phone crowd, as it feels it would be a natural transition for that market. Yet, because of OS 6, RIM has said the Style is meant for the advanced BlackBerry user as well as the entry-level market,” reports CNET.

The Style is now the second RIM device supporting the new OS, and a very significant step towards spreading as much RIM products across as many carriers possible. The 6th version of the Blackberry OS serves a very obvious and noteworthy goal of actively competing with iOS, Android and the upcoming Windows Phone.

Another highlighted step towards RIM’s massive global expansion, particularly mobile expansion is noted here. In the light of Research in Motion’s agreement with Indian authorities regarding their auto access to the BB communications services, it seems that RIM is not about to let go of central markets so easy, including the UAE. While it is a rather small local market for the Canadian Blackberry giant, when it comes to mobile business users, it’s worth gold.

This is exactly why RIM reached at present undisclosed settlement with the UAE before Oct. 11 – the nation’s deadline before a prospected ban of the Blackberry – and cleared its path towards accessing ~100K international travelers visiting the country on a daily basis as well as the local population.
