After Facebook was caught leaking user data to third party sites and advertising networks and a lawsuit brought against popular app maker Zynga, a Google engineer named Brian Kennish developed a plug-in to completely disconnect from the unwanted Facebook applications. It is known as “Facebook Disconnect” and helps you get rid of offsite commenting system.
Facebook Disconnect can be used as an extension for Google Chrome and block all traffic from third party sites to Facebook server. Facebook was recently found guilty of leaking Personally Identifiable Information to the third party advertising sites. By using this extension, one can use the FB account without worrying about the information loss.
“Facebook is notified whenever you visit one of the more than one million sites on the web that use Facebook Connect,” writes Kennish in the extension’s description, “and has a history of leaking personally identifiable information to third parties.”
This extension wipes out all “Like” buttons from a web page or the entire website. So, you will never have to share your personal information with any other site. Moreover, you will get rid of its not-so-liked “Instant Personalization” program. The interesting thing about this app is how much it mimics ad blocker browser add-ons. Ironic. And amusing.
So, if you love to use your Facebook account but cannot put your privacy on stake, then go for Facebook Disconnect and experience the safe surfing.
