Logitech’s New HD Video Conferencing Solution: LifeSize Bridge 2200

LifeSize Communications has launched a new product called LifeSize Bridge 2200. It’s a high quality HD Video Conferencing solution with 16 ports to allow for scalable multiparty communications. This product primarily targets business clients, like organizations with a global presence. The product is said to be on sale globally by the end of this month at a price of $64,999 U.S. MSRP.

A value-added feature of this bridge is that IT decision makers do not need to assess future capacity needs rigorously. Also there is no lost cost of unused capacity as the scalable nature allows for customers to purchase additional ports as the need arises. The company explained the benefits of the bridge as follows:

LifeSize Bridge eliminates the need for a large upfront investment, enabling businesses of every size to allocate resources only where needed to reduce the risk associated with guessing future capacity. In addition, the new bridge or multipoint control unit (MCU) allows IT administrators to take advantage of existing network architectures and put the bridge anywhere they have extra capacity, minimizing the need to make large bandwidth or other network infrastructure investments to fit their video conferencing needs.

It is interesting to note that Logitech, the parent company of LifeSize, has been testing new waters. They were a purely hardware company but by the acquisition of LifeSize Communications by the end of last year, they developed capabilities to venture into new arenas. They intend to focus corporate attention towards video conferencing technology. Also, their Logitech Revue for Google TV has been the talk of the town. This product announcement furthers Logitech’s strategy to expand their wings and fly high to find new markets.
