PiCloud Reaches $1.4m in First-Round Investment Funding
Python programming language library producer PiCloud would like to introduce coders to the joys of running in the cloud. The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based startup just raised $1.4 million in their first round of investments and is still seeking more. Their system is a library, imported into Python code, that allows easy connectivity to the cloud, along with it they offer a pay-as-you go service with no overhead costs, start up, or minimum fees—just to-the-millisecond usage costs.
Om Malik over at GigaOM brings us this scoop,
PiCloud is joining the ranks of fast growing start-ups such as San Francisco-based Herokuin providing a platform for app developers. Much like Heroku, PiCloud runs on Amazon Web Services platforms and is optimized for Python programming language. The company is going to extend its offering to Rackspace and currently offers installation for private datacenters.
Looks like another great use of Amazon Web Services, who currently run a great deal of amazing cloud services. With this sort of library + service, outfits and programmers who use Python will have an extreme ease-of-use for connecting to and utilizing the cloud for their code. Plus, it would allow them to avoid costly servers and datacenters, which would allow them to pass those savings onto their customers.
Along with Amazon Web Services, if PiCloud can push themselves out to RackSpace as well they’ll have covered two major cloud providers in one fell swoop.
