Opera Mobile for Android Gets Brazen with Browser Wars

Oslo-based company, Opera Software recently launched the new Opera Mobile Beta 10.1. smartphone/Android users will now be able to download this updated browser.

“With Opera’s new browser for Android, we give users the opportunity to access the web, using the best tools available. Opera Mobile boasts faster page loading than other browsers and a highly fluid panning, scrolling and smooth zooming experience.” This was the statement of Lars Boilesen, chief executive of Opera Software, following the announcement of the browser update, as reported here.

The fresh version brings quite a lot of significant upgrading and new features on the table. Most notable are support for geolocation and pinch to zoom— which offers a smoother zooming experience. Other appealing elements of this Opera Mobile Beta 10.1 for Android include neat visual tab management for ease in navigation, password manager, synchronizing your bookmarks across numerous devices with Opera Link, SVG Support, Speed Dial shortcuts and setting and Opera Turbo, which compresses web data on Opera’s servers to up to 80% to speed up browsing and save bandwidth.

The company also noted that this is just the onset of the many improvements they are studying and will be launching soon. They are looking at adding support for HTML 5 video and Flash and upgrading to the latest Opera Presto core to enable application cache and improve web storage.

Within the succeeding months, Opera Software will be focusing on taking their performance to the next level via hardware acceleration optimization and JIT or just-in-time compilation platform.

Mobile browsing is reaching a tipping point all its own, as contendors stake their claim in the expanding smartphone front.  Mozilla recently updated its Firefox 4 Beta for Android, while Opera has been steady with its update schedule too.  Beyond mobile, social browsing is honing in on alternatives too, with the launch of RockMelt earlier this week.
