At the moment Yahoo and GetJar are testing their app search across the United States, but starting with 2011 the practice will expand to other countries as well. Yahoo Mobile integrated its mobile apps into GetJar’s search search engine results. The partnership is very fruitful from a technical point of view as GetJar is compatible with most platforms, from iPhone and Android to Symbian. Yahoo has been striking deals lately to grow its network and is expected to make a comeback as a media tool.
In the same game we have Mimvi, who is now launching mobile application search engines for Apple, Android and Blackberry smartphones, with Windows Mobile 7, Samsung and Nokia being expected to follow soon after. This launch is the result of meeting customer demand for a ‘more personalized search experience.’ The offer from Mimvi is unique in the sense that it is also available for third parties, an aspect the search and recommendation engine intends to license.
The apps market receives a helping hand from App Tap, which was released less than a month ago, and which recently made public its collaboration with top apps developers for iPhone and Android handsets: PocketGamer.com, TiPb.com or DroidForums.net. App Tab runs a social search engine and reached a more than double number of users after announcing its partnership.
The interest for App Tab, developed by Mplayit, is reasoned by the complete line of features that the platform offers to users: efficient search engine which gives special attention to social connectivity, providing access to the friends’ likes, recommendations or reviews on App Tab Network.
Mplayit CEO Matt Callaway highlights the importance of a specialized search engine for apps, now that the drive for smartphone applications is increasing, saying, “Consumers, web publishers and app developers are overwhelmed by the flood of mobile apps, and our social search and discovery platform helps solve this problem. Doubling our partner network in less than a month underscores the value of our platform to consumers and publishers, and begins to realize our goal of connecting consumers with great apps everywhere.”
