Morgan Stanley’s Mary Meeker Moves to Kleiner Perkins

Venture capital company Kleiner Perkins recently snatched influential tech analyst Mary Meeker from Morgan Stanley. Meeker has been involved in the tech scene for some time, and has provided the industry valuable information for many years.  There’s a very good reason Business Insider referred to her as Morgan Stanley’s star tech analyst.

“Meeker has been a huge name since the .com days, and every year comes out with a hugely influential report/overview of the industry. This year, her report made a huge splash – as usual.  And it looks like that one will be her last, as she’s finally trading in her brokerage-analyst spikes for a role at Kleiner Perkins, Silicon Valley’s most successful venture capital firm.“

The job switch puts Meeker in the limelight for the second time in recent weeks, as she recently gave a poignant speech at the Web2.0 conference earlier this month.  Meeker’s  talk covered her call to social network marketing, as well as a list of 10 important questions she would raise in front of every tech executive. These highlighted overseas competitions, mobility shifts by Nokia/Symbian’s market share fall to 37% in light of iOS and Android, social ecosystems, online advertisement, products improvement/updating, and much more.

Mary Meeker is an important asset for countless investors, and while Morgan Staley will no longer be able to gain from that fact, Kleiner Perkins’ efforts to transfer her are likely to yield some handsome results for the company.
