So Who Actually Owns Facebook? The Breakdown.
After Facebook’s recent $50 billion valuation, getting to know exactly who owns what and how much of the largest social-networking site on the globe is not a bad idea at all. This infographic reveals just that in a very colorful form, summing up the stakeholder balance of powers within the privately held company.
“Stakeholders shown in this pie chart:
Facebook staff: 30%
Co-founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg: 24%
Co-founder Dustin Moskovitz: 6%
Co-founder Eduardo Saverin: 5%
Napster’s Sean Parker, Founding President of Facebook: 4%
Digital Sky Technologies, a Russian investment firm: ~10%
Goldman Sachs: ~0.8%
Goldman Sachs’ clients: ~3%
Greylock Partners, a venture capital firm: ~1.5%
Meritech Capital Partners: ~1.5%
Peter Thiel, PayPal co-founder and Clarium Capital president: ~3%
Elevation Partners (that’s U2′s Bono among others): ~1.5%
Other investors: ~9.7%”
Microsoft’s 1.6% stake and Hong Kong billionaire Li-Ka Shing’s 0.8% stake of Facebook are not included in the chart, as well as Accel Partners’ investment. Despite the fact these were left out in this chart, it’s still easy to see Facebook’s influential members, and how its financial future could play out. A $50 billion valued social network translates into a lot of money invested either way.
Facebook’s last round of funding and subsequent high valuation means investors have a particularly keen eye on investing in leading Silicon Valley companies. Despite rumors of Facebook plans to go public with an IPO, potential scrutiny by the SEC may raise some questions about when and how that could happen. Since the currently privately held company doesn’t have to publicly disclose any reports or revenue, data such as the above presents a very good glimpse at this aspect of the company.
