Google Acquires Security Analytics Software Developer Zynamics
Google’s made a sly acquisition today, taking in analytics firm Zynamics. According to a brief blog post, the acquired security analytics software developer Zynamics is headed to one of the cloud’s most prominent data crunchers. Zynamics develops offensive and defensive security reverse engineering tools. The company’s offerings, which include BinDiff, BinNavi, VxClass, BinCrowd and PDF Dissecto help users identify FOSS code in binaries, identify and trigger source code flaws and so on, but it’s still unclear how Google plans to integrate Zynamics into its portfolio.
In addition to this move however, Zynamics had some news earlier this month as well. MANDIANT announced it has updated its Memoryze memory forensics software, and added integration with VxClass: Zynamics’ malicious software processing product. Memoryze upgrades include “the ability to search the process address space for private byte signatures generated through collaboration with zynamics VxClass : automated malware classification system.”
Google’s acquisition of Zynamics may translate into a serious boost for the company, but it’s certainly not the only investment circling analytics investment announced today. VentureBeat reports that the banking cybercrime prevention-focused Guardian Analytics raised another $11 million in venture capital. The company plans to use the investment to boost sales and boost product development around anomaly detection and transaction monitoring.
Another analytics company who had some big news today is Clearwater. The SaaS investment reporting and analytics vendor announced it has entered a minority growth equity investment partnership with Summit Partners. Summit Partners’ Greg Goldfarb joined Clearwater’s board and Harrison Miller, also from Summit, will serve in a board advisory position.
But for Google, the acquition of Zynamics may reemerge as an asset in more than one front. That would include potential security initiatives around Google’s offerings, as well as integration with its search algorithms, which is based on a great deal of user behavior big data and stats. Analytics play a huge role in big data monetization, and as users turn to more and more to cloud services and management solutions, the demand for accurate and timely analytics services will surge.
