Cloud.com Pushes Open-Source with CloudStack 2.2 and Upcoming Event

Jumping straight into business, Cloud.com recently released the latest version of its open source multi-tenant IaaS platform, CloudStack 2.2, which features over 100 new features. Among these is hypervisor support for VMware vSphere and CloudBridge, which enables the integration of CloudStack-based applications with other clouds including EC2, Scalable Storage Cloud (S3) and OpenStack APIs.  It ships with hypervisor support for VMware vSphere, Xen and KVM running simultaneously from the same interface in a single cloud.”

The upgraded and tweaked CloudStack 2.2 represents one more step in the open cloud’s steady growth, but Cloud.com isn’t stopping there to promote its agenda. The company announced it has partnered up with open source cloud company Puppet Labs to host will host the “Build a Cloud Day” free workshop on March 25 at the Wyndham Indianapolis West Hotel.

The workshop will focus on teaching to build and manage cloud environments using open source software, and is a part of the of the education program for the Indiana LinuxFest held on March 25-27. Cloud.com will demonstrate how to use CloudStack to deploy a cloud delivering IaaS, and Puppet Labs will exampling how to use its open-source configuration manager Puppet.

Cloud.com has been very busy making headlines lately, especially since the partnership with Puppet Labs is not its latest. Cloud security platform developer Symplified announced it will offer its single-sign-in service will be offered with CloudStack.

Open-source is booming, and Cloud.com is only a one part of the movement. Puppet Labs for instance was chosen by Constant Content to ease the company’s shift to cloud services. Also recently, open source storage virtualization software vendor Gluster joined the OpenStack community. OpenStack is the open-source cloud OS initiative by Rackspace, NASA and others, and Gluster will release its enhanced code contribution at the OpenStack Developer Conference held in April 26.
