Skype Hires McAfee’s Jonathan Chadwick as Finance Chief

Skype Technologies, the giant provider of internet based international calling has appointed former McAfee Inc. finance chief Jonathan Chadwick as its chief financial officer. The appointment was made public by Skype on its website as a part of its team. Prior to him, Adrian Dillon was Skype’s CFO whose appointment was announced in March 2010. Chadwik has an experience of 13 years working with Cisco and joined McAfee last year, where he looked after the financial teams and introduced some new business models.

The company has hired Chadwick to prepare for its initial public offering, boost sales and revive up customer growth. It filed for the same with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on March 4. It also appointed Mark Gillett as chief development and operations officer, according to Jennifer Caukin, a spokeswoman for Skype.

We have been watching the recent developments from Skype, including the wave of news about their upcoming IPO. Last year, it’s revenues also increased by 20 percent from $719 million to $860 million. Back in March, it also entered into a partnership with Meebo, where both of them will be taking advantage of advertising sales in U.S. marketplace.

It also acquired Qik, the video-broadcasting service for $100 million, earlier this year.  The deal is expected to close soon by end of this month.  Here is an abstract from the press release issued by Skype,

Both Skype and Qik have a common purpose of enriching communications and sharing with video, across any device. The acquisition of Qik helps accelerate Skype’s leadership in video by adding recording, sharing and storing capabilities to Skype’s product portfolio. Through this acquisition, Skype will also be able to leverage the engineering expertise that is behind Qik’s Smart Streaming™ technology, which optimizes video transmission over wireless networks.
