VMware Details Upcoming Products, Rampant Global Expansion
Virtualization giant VMware is obviously investing a great deal in order to stay attuned with market trends, and , according to Vittorio Viarengo, VP of End User Computing at VMware, VMware set its eyes on Honeycomb. VMware will launch a desktop virtualization client for Honeycomb tablets around the end of the second quarter this year.
In addition to this offering, the company also has a few more desktop virtualized products lined up for release in the near future. That includes clients for iOS and Android, as well as one for the upcoming BlackBerry Playbook tablet with an unknown launch date. Later this year, VMware will also start shipping will start shipping a version of Fusion for Mac OS X.
“Later in the year, VMware will start shipping a version of Fusion, VMware’s software for running Windows on Apple’s computers, which becomes the Local Mode for View on Macs. Local Mode allows users to run managed virtual desktops locally without a network connection.”
Over in the UK, VMware pushed another front and appointed the now former government G-Cloud cloud computing initiative deputy director, Andy Tait to head the company’s UK public services. Some commentators noted Tait’s move is an indicator of the cloud’s decline in the UK public sector, but others disagree saying that VMware is looking to become a key player in G-Cloud initiatives – and that Tait’s hiring has confirmed this.
Going all the way to Australia, VMware, Cisco and EMC have teamed up to move KPMG Australia, a local outlet of the global audit, tax and advisory services firms network to move it into the cloud. The three companies will deploy a private Vblock cloud in KPGM Australia’s datacenter.
A few days ago, VMware also acquired online data backup provider Mozy, but its competitors have been busy too. Juniper Networks partnered up with Openet, and will resell the latter’s part of its policy management and charging platforms as part of its MobileNext solution.
