The much awaited EMC World 2011 Conference has kicks off today at The Venetian in Las Vegas with the theme of “Cloud Meets Big Data.” The event is 11th in the series and has gathered over 10,000 attendees at the venue as well as thousands more participating online through Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other social media outlets.
The conference will be kicked off by EMC Chairman and CEO Joe Tucci, highlighting transformational opportunities presented by private, public and hybrid cloud computing and Big Data- complying the theme of the event. Those who can’t attend the event can mark their presence online via Facebook using an “Exclusive Access” pass, with added news updates provided via Twitter.
Just today, EMC is also releasing its first-ever Hadoop-based product, which will fall under the company’s big data division anchored by the Greenplum analytic database.Hadoop has introduced five new products from EMC, NetApp, Mellanox, SnapLogic and DataStax that will highlight the potential riches to be made in big data analytics. While the main focus is on improving the open source data-processing software tools, the big thing to consider is EMC and NetApp gearing up for a new lineup of storage products, including the new E-Series lineup.
Talking of EMC improving its position, the company has well transformed itself as a cloud-service provider, and trying to capitalize on the trend by being an important supplier to all the major competitors in the field.
In today’s conference, the company is anticipated to make a number of big announcements pushing its cloud agenda. So, the bottom line is that EMC wants to maintain a Swiss-like neutrality in the current upheaval within the data center industry. It is collaborating with several cloud-service providers and expecting to utilize its storage systems and software products compatible with private clouds as well as public clouds. But yes, it will be focusing on “Hybrid”cloud computing.
