SAP is Raising the Revenue Bar with Mobile and Big Data Analytics

Amidst HP’s software transformation under head Leo Apotheker, the former SAP CEO, the German software maker is also adoption a new strategy. Co-CEOs Bill McDermott and Jim Hagemann Snabe have set the company a goal of achieving $28 billion sales in 2015 from mobile and data analytics offering. SAP made a big push in this area at the recent SAP SAPphire 2011 conference, where it introduced several new mobile applications targeting enterprise customers, and struck a number of partnerships with Amazon and Microsoft in context to HANA.

Nevertheless, investors are not yet convinced.

“Many investors believe SAP’s product portfolio has potential, but we want to see proof and we probably won’t see that for another two years, three years,” said Thilo Mueller, a portfolio manager at MB Fund Advisory GmbH.”

About 3,300 investors attended a shareholders gathering today in Mannheim, Germany. Hans- Martin Buhlmann, president of shareholder proxy Vereinigung Institutionelle Privatanleger noted in a speech that, for once, SAP needs to be more precise about how much and when these new products are expected to contribute to the company’s $28 billion goal. This comes in light of the fact SAP’s ERP software line-up accounted for 72 percent of sales in 2010, which totaled 12.5 billion euros.

SAP is really looking to boost sales in the near future, and as it seems mobile and big data analytics will become even greater areas of focus for the company. HANA is the centerpiece of SAP’s current business analytics strategy, and partnerships – including the one with HP – will play an important role in growing its market share. Over at the mobile space, the software maker launched NetWeaver, a developer framework that lets users access SAP application from their mobile devices.
