SunGard Launches New Recovery Suite with VMware Support

IT services firm SunGard announced a new managed recovery suite called  Recover2Cloud.  The suite incorporates several services that encompass monitoring, troubleshooting and testing along with deployment as well as recovery.

“SunGard’s Recover2Cloud services enhances its existing portfolio with important features like SLA guarantees, service automation and recovery orchestration, and enterprise-class services,” says Laura DuBois from research firm IDC. “Organizations are advised to look for these types of features, and carefully evaluate their service provider’s capability to deliver them, in order to gain best value for their recovery investment.”

Currently Recover2Cloud offers two services, Recover2Cloud for Server Replication, which is designed for physical server- and cloud-based mission-critical applications that need to be recovered within four hours, and Recover2Cloud for Vaulting.  The latter is a cloud storage platform that restores data stored in SunGuard’s datacenters.

Lastly, the company said a third service will be introduced sometime later this year; it hasn’t been given an official name yet but it will apparently be “leveraging storage virtualization technology” according to the release.

Backup and data protection represent one of the biggest topics in the cloud, and several companies are capitalizing on enterprises’ demand for safer deployments.  FalconStor, a maker of cloud backup and data recovery appliances is one of them, and had a product launch last week.  Named ‘Version 7’, the latest version of its offerings suite includes support for VMware vStorage APIs, VMware’s vCenter Site Recovery Manager integration and a performance boost.

There are many sub areas under the enterprise cloud backup category, and protection for mobile end points is another segment that has seen some activity recently. Druva, the developer of the InSync backup offering for laptops, Android- and iOS-powered devices, announced it has raised $12 million in a Series B funding round.
