Facebook Settles in on Location, Photo Goals

Facebook Places allows people to share their location along with their thoughts in real time through smartphones. Now, the largest social media network on the planet expands the array of devices that can avail of the Places functionality.

“Lots of people use Facebook to talk about where they are, have been or want to go. Now you can add location from anywhere, regardless of what device you are using, or whether it is a status update, photo or wall post.

“As a part of this, we are phasing out the mobile-only Places feature.”

Places can also be used as a marketing tool. Australia’s Westfield, for example, gives shoppers special discounts and deals if they check-in when they shop at their establishment. The business is also not even in the least baffled by the update of the service. In fact, they like it.

“This is good news for our retailers as well as our shoppers, as the update means deals will be shared with even more people, and shoppers who opt-in will receive exclusive offers straight to their mobile.”

Facebook is also looking to compete with Instagram, Path and Color by adding photo filters. The move obviously goals at steering users away from competing services and other picture-filter applications. Tittle-tattles say Facebook is eyeing Instagram for acquisition, but the social network giant ended up prepping for a release of its own set of 12 photo filters, some of which similar to that of Instagram. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is egging on engineers to fashion more filters so it can officially roll out the product.

Furthermore, Facebook finally locked in the date for the f8 developer conference. The event is widely popular because Facebook make announcements of new applications during this occasion. It was also around this time that the widely popular Facebook “Like” button came to light. f8 developer conference is the fourth semi-regular conference for Facebook developers which started in 2007.

Meanwhile, to those familiar of the story about Facebook hitting the one trillion page view milestone last June, as announced by Doubleclick Adplaner, is not true.
