Curation has become one of the foundations of Internet culture. If it’s something that a trusted figure gathers and recommends, or is an interest among your social media circle of friends, there’s a good chance that it’s something that you’d be interested about as well. Curation cuts through the noise of Internet information overload and presents only the signal that matters to you.
Today, Appolicious announced that Best Buy is its new partner. The affiliation will bring about the Best Buy Discovery App, a mobile application directory powered by Appolicious to make recommended iOS and Android apps handy for consumers.
There will be more 1,200 categories searchable within the platform. It has auto complete feature to lift the burden off consumers’ shoulders trying to see if the directory’s got the app they need. Best Buy will greatly benefit from Appolicious’ algorithmic app search that’s based on social, user-generated and editorial signals.
The online retail giant will curate apps as well, on top of providing a directory. It’s going to catalogue popular apps in the Android Market and iTunes App Store, and then feature recommendations from Best Buy employees under the Best Buy Blue Shirts’ App Picks. Also, there will be recommendations from stores and store associates that you can look into.
There’s another amazing offering called Price Cuts. It showcases the updated list of price reductions in the Android Market and iTunes App Store.
The partnership’s going to be greatly beneficial for Appolicious who also has Yahoo as its partner. Appolicious founder Alan Warms said BestBuy is only the first of the partnerships that they will announce.
Curation has become a regular practice around the dotcom, and there are applications that has put a lot of weight on curating content. Another such company is Flipboard which dominated the iPad in curation, basing them on what friends on your social network circle are into. Another app called HeyStak is doing the same thing but its extending the reach to all iOS and Android devices.
