Galaxy Nexus Pre-Order, Volume Bug Fix Coming Soon
The recently released Galaxy Nexus faces criticism as early UK users suffered from a volume bug in which the device loses volume at its own accord. The volume bug seems specific for those connected to 900Mhz for 2G coverage, but now it seems the issue has been resolved.
Samsung said that they have developed a fix for the volume bug, but did not announce as to when the patch will be available to the public.
So one of the founders of MoDaCo decided to help Fandroids with the release of a patch for the volume bug, but users are warned that the patch is still in the internal testing phase, though it works quite well for them.
To fix the volume bug, you must first download the zip file. Then put your device in bootloader mode by turning off the phone, then turning it on again while holding down both the ‘volume up’ and ‘volume down’ buttons. For Windows, double click ‘install-windows.bat’ and for Mac, open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type ‘chmod +x install-mac.sh’ followed by ‘./install-mac.sh’. And for Linux, open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type ‘chmod +x install-linux.sh’ followed by ‘./install-linux.sh’.
Despite the volume bug reported, Fandroids in the US are still excited for the Galaxy Nexus launch stateside, and can’t wait to get their hands on the device. For weeks, all they had were rumors and leaked photos to keep hope alive, but now, Verizon confirmed the arrival of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich device.
According to a post in ComputerWorld, Mike “micdawg” Peak received a call from Verizon after he complained about how disappointed he was with how the company handled the Galaxy Nexus launch. To his surprise, the person he was talking to stated that pre-orders for the Galaxy Nexus will start on Tuesday, November 29 and the device will be officially released on December 8th. Verizon priced the device at $200.
Fandroids are still quite disappointed as to how Verizon seems to be downplaying the release of the Galaxy Nexus, but alas, it will be here soon enough.
