Microsoft HealthVault Goes Mobile with iPhone App

iTriage, a leading consumer healthcare technology, has teamed up with Microsoft’s HealthVault personal healthcare record service, popularly known as PHR, for its iPhone mobile application. There are over 3 million users of iTriage application, who use it for viewing information on symptoms, diseases, measures, medications, and accessing a countrywide directory of medical providers. This connection between iTriage and Microsoft PHR will enable users to quickly view and access their records stored within Microsoft HealthVault.

“PHRs offer consumers a great way to monitor their health. Our iTriage vision includes being the mobile aggregator for multiple PHRs in the future, “explained Peter Hudson, M.D., co-founder of iTriage, LLC. “We believe today’s HealthVault PHR integration into iTriage will give consumers a convenient and easy way to access their health information anywhere, anytime.”

This iPhone application will be available early in 2012, and can be downloaded free of cost from iTunes app store or Android Market. While Microsoft HealthVault access through iTriage is immediately available for iPhone devices, access through Android devices will be available in a few weeks.

A modern take on healthcare

This is not the only development in the cloud healthcare segment, as we have some news from other companies too. For example, GE’s new focus on Big Data could have a significant impact in healthcare, where the company is a major player in the growing electronic medical records (EMR) systems market.  Combining and analyzing clinical patient data collected in EMRs with machine-generated data from MRIs and other devices could allow healthcare providers to better diagnose and treat patients, as well as identify the most promising and cost-effective treatment options at a time when spiraling healthcare costs are negatively impacting the nation’s fiscal health.

And the cloud spans a much bigger circle, and can be utilized in so many different ways, especially by enterprises. The growing interest around the medical IT sector has encouraged companies to develop apps and cloud systems for the healthcare realm. WellNet Healthcare Group and Healthcare Interactive’s partnership to manage and deliver medical benefits to hundreds of former’s clients is an example of businesses transitioning to cloud-based environment. Some of the recent developments include Merge Healthcare, which launched a free image-sharing network in partnership with Dell—which has 4 billion medical images and related studies. In Canada, healthcare spending has been an untiring issue. This inspired PreAxia Healthcare Payment Systems Inc. to create an automated system for healthcare spending for Canadians that will follow a 3-year developmental plan. It seems that the cloud is going to give us several advancements in coming few years. All we need to do is just keep a keen watch at the ways by which data accessibility and data protection work in tandem for a smarter future.
