Make Technologies Latest Acquisition on Dell’s Shopping List
Dell acquired a company called Make Technologies for an undisclosed amount – its fifth buy this year and the third for this week. This is compared with the eight deals Dell struck last year.
Make offers services to enterprises that are upgrading their data centers but still want to use their legacy apps on a more modern infrastructure. The company takes care of the whole code migration process, offering what is promised to be a more affordable alternative to either doing it all in-house or simply licensing new software.
“The combination of Make Technologies and Dell provides the market with a single vendor solution for any modernization activity and is an exciting step in expanding growth opportunities for our core application modernization software and services,” said Bill Bergen, president and CEO of Make.
“Together, with Dell’s global reach, scale and reputation for customer support, Make’s methodology and tools will become even more accessible to more customers struggling with the dilemma that surrounds legacy environments.”
Dell’s ambitions
Dell shares similar ambitions about its investment in Clerity earlier this week, a company that also offers migration although with a slightly different angle to the niche. Terms of that deal weren’t disclosed either, but while the details are obscure it’s fairly easy to make out what the manufacturer has in mind for its services portfolio.
Another area Dell is pursuing is desktop virtualization. On Monday it bought out VDI software maker Wyse and at the same time revealed three new offerings to help enterprises manage their end point resources better. Two are VDI appliances, each designed with a different type of client in mind, while the third is a hosted option offered up with the as-a-service model and catchphrase.
