HP Discover 2012: Live Coverage Kicks off Next Week

Now that SAP and EMC have held their big annual conferences, it’s time for Hewlett-Packard to turn the spotlight on itself with HP Discover, kicking off next Monday June 4-7 in Las Vegas.

The gathering is expected to feature the traditionally long lineup of announcements and product updates, in addition to an equally formidable number of keynotes and sessions. The speaker list comprises of a number of Hewlett-Packard execs including the newest CEO Meg Whiteman and Cube regular Dave Donatelli, as well as a few outside pundits: Microsoft COO Kevin Turner, DreamWorks’s Jeff Katzenberg and Intel CIO Kimberley Stevenson are among the most notable.

This year’s Discover is expected to focus on some of the key trends that impact the hardware giant – the ones that the company has been trying to address for quite some time now. The demand for more efficient servers is one item that falls under this category, and HP’s Project Voyager  was one of HP’s most recent responses. The high-budget R&D project produced the ProLiant Gen8, which has been referred to by some as one the best products in the manufacturers portfolio (with good reason).

Big data is another area we’ll probably be hearing about at Discover. Hewlett-Packard debuted a hybrid analytics platform that’s meant to accommodate the analysis of both structured and unstructured data, but it still has a long way to go. And it’s based in large part on technology from Autonomy – the cloud software provider that has not been doing so well since its merger with HP, and the upcoming conference could be an opportunity to turn things around.
